What Do Geniuses Do in Their Free Time?

Are you wondering about the things geniuses do in their spare time? Congratulations, because you’ve come to the right place. I observe how many ordinary people assume that geniuses stand out from the crowd. Showing excellent creativity, intellectual ability, or originality, these individuals lead discoveries and movements.

Curiosity is a hallmark of intelligence. Thus, geniuses are always hungry for information, no matter what type of intelligence they have. They are always seeking more things to learn.

Have you had some ‘Aha!’ moments in your life? It’s the feeling dopamine rush, and just like hunters from a hundred-thousand-year human past, geniuses love to hunt for information and knowledge that will give them a rush of realization. That feels like the one I got back when I outsmarted a fish, a rabbit, or wild pig.

What Are the Top Things Geniuses Do During Their Free Times?

Keep in mind that success is not the only thing geniuses do. It also depends on what they do during their free time. Successful people are considered as the smartest people not because of how you see them but because of what they do to make you seem them how you see them.

Below are the top things geniuses do during their spare time:

They love to walk

For most, a regular walk was crucial for brain functioning. Did you know that Soren Kierkegaard discovered his constitutionals so inspiring that he’d often rush back to his desk and continue writing, still wearing his hat and carrying his umbrella or walking stick?

Also, Charles Dickens often took three-hour walks every afternoon during his free time. What he noticed on them fed straight into his wring. Beethoven took long strolls after lunch, bringing a paper and pencil with him in case inspirations struck.

They prioritize downtime to recharge and decompress

One thing that will shock you is that most geniuses prefer to schedule downtime. For instance, Freud allowed time to relax after seeing his patients. Franklin and Kant enjoyed eating, reading, and listening to music to recharge.

They learn a new skill

It is ironic how some average individuals see no value in learning new skills where geniuses and successful people seek new skills when they don’t need them as ordinary people should.

Geniuses spend their free time learning new skills by reading, researching, or walking so they can grab new skills they need in life.

They read and read

Take note that geniuses are curious intellectually. They read more books compared to an average person. They can also read faster than others. These people can easily and quickly process the information with better comprehension and retention.

They love to pick things separately to see how they work. Often, they feel a relentless hunger for deeper knowledge and do things out of the ordinary or even dangerous to see the cause and effect. Geniuses also tend to experiment with things average people wouldn’t even try. Nonetheless, some of the best inventions came from things like that.

How Do Geniuses Live their Regular Life?

Different studies prove that gifted people and geniuses demonstrate similar traits and have high IQs. What we often forget is how much hard work and focus they put into delivering their accomplishments.

Here are some of the regular habits of the most gifted people in history.

They sleep less than everyone else

Geniuses are more likely to sleep less and awaken at strange hours of the night. They might only nap throughout the day and night. It seems like their mind never settle down and have a difficult time resting overthinking.

That has often been mistaken for anxiety or bipolar disorder. Studies do prove that a higher IQ could be the root cause of insomnia. A few famous geniuses like Leonardo da Vinci have a 20-minute nap schedule every four hours.

They don’t have much social life

I have understood those who love to be social. The entire things look false, particularly in places such as NYC, where being social is equal to talk about yourself loudly to as many folks as you can.

But did you know that Picasso and his lover Fernande Olivier would see people only on Sundays? Further, French novelist Marcel Proust completely withdrew from society. Try to read one of his books, and you would know that society might have been thankful for that.

Nonetheless, it seems logical that an energy-sapping social life is one more distraction for these geniuses. After all, why bother if your goal is to have everybody in society recall you forever?

They think metamorphically

Aristotle considered metaphor as a sign of a genius. He thought that the person who could notice similarities between two things and connect them was a person of a special gift.

We can use that to help our creative endeavors by looking at the connection between different objects or ideas when trying to make something new.

Can You Become Genius Too?

Well, it is never too late for us to become a prodigy we’ve always want to be. Others might argue that geniuses are born, not created. However, I noticed basic approaches that allow people to become geniuses in their fields.

Most historical figures are known as geniuses—from Leonardo da Vinci to Bill Gates and Steve Jobs—excelled in their fields due to how they molded themselves, versus formal education or birthright.

WSJ Bestselling author of “Barking Up The Wrong Tree” Eric Barker describes that becoming a genius isn’t necessarily by IQ but excelling in your chosen endeavor or field.

  • Pursue time at your craft
  • Be driven and curious
  • Test your ideas
  • Work because of passion and not money
  • Sacrifice

Extraordinary and gifted people aren’t different because they have innate skills and talent you don’t. They only put in the work that no one else did. If you wish to reach the next level of your growth, spend your free time differently. Rather than focusing on distracting entertainment or numbing out through substances, consider learning new skills. Focus on creating and learning!
